About This Site

What UK Energy Efficiency Report is — and how it works

Independent information about government heat pump grants, with full transparency about our commercial model.

What we are

UK Energy Efficiency Report is an independent information and lead generation service focused on government heat pump grants — principally the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) administered by Ofgem.

We publish factual, editorially independent content to help UK homeowners understand what grants are available to them, how they work, and whether their property is likely to qualify. We do not represent any installer, manufacturer, or energy supplier. We are not affiliated with the government or Ofgem.

Commercial disclosure

This site operates as a commercial lead generation service. When a homeowner completes an eligibility check and submits their contact details, those details are passed to one or more MCS-certified heat pump installers in their region for the purpose of arranging a free, no-obligation property survey. We receive a commercial fee from installer partners when a qualified lead is delivered. This is how the site is funded. We state this openly because we believe transparency builds trust rather than undermining it.

How we vet installer partners

We only work with installers who meet the following criteria:

  • MCS certified — Microgeneration Certification Scheme certification is a mandatory requirement. This is the industry standard certification for heat pump installers in the UK and is required for homeowners to access the BUS grant.
  • Covered by consumer protection — MCS-certified installations are automatically covered by the MCS Consumer Code, providing dispute resolution and workmanship guarantees.
  • Local knowledge — We prioritise installers with demonstrable experience in the housing stock of the region they operate in, particularly for rural and off-grid properties.
  • Honest assessment — We expect our installer partners to conduct genuine free surveys and to advise homeowners honestly when a property is not suitable, rather than proceeding with unsuitable installations.

What we are not

We are not a government body, a government-affiliated organisation, or an Ofgem representative. We do not administer grants, issue vouchers, or make eligibility decisions — these are the responsibility of your MCS-certified installer, who applies to Ofgem on your behalf.

We are not a financial advice service. The information on this site is for general guidance only and does not constitute financial, energy, or legal advice. Always verify current grant terms directly with your installer and with Ofgem before making decisions.

Content and accuracy

All grant figures, eligibility criteria, and scheme details published on this site were accurate as of May 2026. Government schemes change — the Boiler Upgrade Scheme has been extended, amended, and updated since its launch in 2022, and may change again. We review our content regularly but we cannot guarantee that all information is current at the moment of reading. The authoritative source for BUS terms is Ofgem.

Data and privacy

We take data privacy seriously. When you submit an eligibility check, your contact details are shared with a matched MCS-certified installer for the purpose you consented to — arranging a free survey. We do not sell your data to third-party marketers, data brokers, or advertisers. For full details of how we handle your data, read our Privacy Policy.
